How to Play Minesweeper

Learn the classic foundation behind Johnny Sweeper: numbers, flags, safe cells, and the first decisions in a minefield adventure.

The classic foundation of the adventure

  1. The board is made of closed cells. Some cells hide mines.
  2. An open number shows how many mines touch that cell.
  3. If the numbers reveal where a mine must be, place a flag.
  4. If all mines around a number are flagged, the other neighboring cells are safe.
  5. You win when every non-mine cell is open.

FAQ

What does 1 mean?

Exactly one mine is next to that cell horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.

Can I play without guessing?

Often yes, but some boards force a risky choice. Good strategy reduces those moments.
